Abstract

This paper gives a design steps for wind farm in Tarhuna region, and the effect of this designed wind farm on Tarhuna electrical network. Ten Wind turbines have been compared, and the suitable Turbine for this side were chosen based on the largest capacity factor achieved. The design of this wind farm are based on the real data of wind speed for a height of 10m, 20m, and 40m by using anemometer device, these data were taken from the Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAOL). The wind data is analyzed by using Windographer software to found out wind speeds in the site for different high levels and the replication of wind speed in every month. In addition, the suitable direction of wind turbine in which the turbine facing the max speed of wind was determined. The designed wind farm was connected to the Tarhuna substation in order to determine max power should be provided by wind farm, that should not affected on the voltage level of Tarhuna substation, and the loading in the lines and transformer, as well as the short circuit levels, by calculating load flow, and short circuit analysis using NEPLAN software. In addition, economic study of this project is perform for 20 years. The preliminary analysis of this simulation results showed that the project is electrically and economically beneficial for the electrical energy system in Tarhuna, and Libyan network.
