Abstract

Available clinical method to separate blood plasma from whole blood is currently based on the centrifuge device. The drawback of existing process is that the patients must have to wait at the hospital or laboratory where the separation facility is available. This paper presents a design of microfluidic channel on a microfluidic chip for separation of blood plasma from a blood sample. Blood sample could be introduced into the micro channel via the effects of capillary force. Cross flow micro channel has been proposed in this paper. It consists of focusing channel and filtration channel. Since filtration channel depth is less than the blood cells diameter, plasma can be easily extracted from the blood sample. The merits of this structure are simple and high separation efficiency.
