Abstract

A novel, InGaP/GaAs, mechanically-stacked solar cell is simulated under AM1.5G and AM0 spectra to evaluate power conversion efficiency for terrestrial and space applications, respectively. The simulation builds upon previous work that presented a high-efficiency, GaAs, emitter-less, back-surface-alternating-contact solar cell. In this paper, the innovative back-surface-contact design is leveraged in a tandem cell configuration that demonstrates power conversion efficiency comparable to state-of-the-art, monolithic, multi-junction solar cells.
