Abstract

VLC stands for Visible Light Communication are all technologies using visible light as a high-speed transmission medium. The Light Fidelity (LiFi) system is a VLC wireless communication technology that defers to the Wireless Fidelity (WiFi) system. The wireless WiFi system uses the electromagnetic spectrum as a data transfer medium. The LiFi system replaces or alternates with the WiFi system where the bandwidth of the Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum is limited and becomes insufficient to support the increase in wireless connections and big data. In this paper, a prototype for a LiFi system is realized using two Arduino boards. Each one is used as a transceiver (Rx/Tx). The transmitting part transmits the data by flashing powerful Light-Emitting Diode (LED) and the receiving part receives the data using a photodetector (phototransistor). Coding and encryption methods are used to protect the information sent as text. Our prototype reaches a transmission distance of more than two meters without errors.
