Abstract

In burst carrier recovery circuits with conventional single tuned filters, which are used in TDMA communications, the recovered carrier phase error increases with the interburst frequency fluctuation, resulting in worsening of the bit error rate and cycle slip characteristics. In this work a phase-compensated filter that has flat phase frequency characteristics in the neighborhood of the center frequency is proposed. It is also shown that the amplitude and phase frequency characteristics and the transient response characteristics can be designed in the same manner as for the phase lock loop by analysis and simulation of the fundamental characteristics of the filter. The characteristics of the inverse modulation burst carrier recovery circuit using the proposed phase-compensated filter are shown for a QPSK signal, and the utility of this circuit is shown experimentally. © 1997 Scripta Technica, Inc.
