Abstract

This paper presents a new yokeless Linear Switch Reluctance Machine (LSRM) for Urban Rail Transit System (URTS) which primary and secondary sides both feature modular structure. The primary side consists of independent cores of different width with the bigger core wound by a simple concentric winding while the smaller core remains unwound. The secondary, i.e. the stator of the LSRM includes series of faro-magnetic segments which are magnetically and mechanically isolated with each other. The modular characteristics of the presented LSRM gains a superiority over the conventional teeth type LSRM in terms of high thrust density and low cost as long stroke linear driver. FEM model is established and employed to analyze and evaluate the machine performance which gives a fair comparison with the teeth type LSRM in terms of force density and force ripple.
