Abstract

The compact microstrip slot antenna is designed for ISM applications at 5.8 GHz based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity-backed structure. In order to provide better noise immunity and isolation with spurious DC currents, the SIW structure is considered. Different resonant slot shapes like inclined rectangular slot and sectored slot are put on top of the conducting layer to excite the TE 110 mode at the resonant frequency are analyzed. The resonant slot is fed by a microstrip line feed and the overall size of the antenna is 24 mm ×38 mm × 1.57 mm. The size reduction and the gain of configuration 2 compared to configuration 1 are achieved as 33.33% and 5.11 dB respectively.
