Abstract

This paper presents the design and performance analysis of an ultra-wideband monopole microstrip patch antenna with enhanced bandwidth and narrow notched band characteristics. The reference antenna is a monopole type with a square radiator mounted on a FR4-epoxy substrate and fed by a microstrip feed line. The other side of the substrate has a partial ground plane. An inverted-dome slot has been cut in the upper edge of the partial ground plane under the feed line. The antenna bandwidth has been increased by 31.73%. Two C shapes: C-face to face and C-back to back configurations have been etched with a distance of 0.25 mm from the center of the partial ground plane under the feed line. The C-face to face configuration causes a single narrowband-notch from 6.26 GHz to 7.28 GHz. However, the C-back to back configuration creates another different single band-notch from 9.85 GHz to 11.46 GHz. Parametric study is done to estimate the proper dimensions of the proposed antennas. The proposed antennas are investigated using CST-EM software package in terms of the antennas different parameters including impedance bandwidth characteristics, radiation patterns, antennas' gain, and radiation efficiency.
