Abstract

Traditional inductors needs big volume and area on PCB boards which cannot meet miniaturization and integration requirement of electronic equipment. Thus based on this background, using spiral inductors with high inductance value on boards is the trend. While be limited by the PCB material and inductor structure, the value of single layer inductor is small. Multi-layer inductor will be analyzed from theoretical and practical perspective. And then by utilizing Keysight ADS circuit and electromagnetic simulation software, multi-layer inductor will be modeled and parameter extraction. This essay will summarize the optimum proposal of multi-layer inductor design and provide an efficient practical method for optimal choice of multi-layer PCB spiral inductor from stack up terms and parameter terms. A 42MHz low pass filter utilizing two-layer PCB spiral inductor is simulated and tested to prove its practicability.
