Abstract

In this paper, a 600kw 4200rpm interior permanent magnet (IPM) traction motor for high-speed train has been designed, and its characteristics under typical short-circuit faults are particularly analyzed using the finite element method (FEM), especially the short-circuit current. Solutions and fault tolerance ability for short-circuit faults are proposed according to the analysis above. Furthermore, key design parameters of the IPM traction motor influencing the short-circuit current are discussed in order to provide some methods to reinforce the short-circuit fault tolerance ability.
