Abstract

In this work, numerical analysis and experiment have been conducted for a unit cell, 6-cell bundle, and 1kW tubular SOFC stack with 20 bundles which manufactured by KIER(Korea Institute of Energy Research). We have designed and constructed 1kW SOFC stack with 20 bundles and devised layout for APU system including reformer, heat exchanger, burner and so on. One bundle is made of 6 unit cells. The obtained numerical data are correlated to experimental results such as the polarization curve and power density, which shows good agreement. The obtainable results can be very useful to guide for system improvements and optimization of a tubular SOFC stack and APU system. In this study, the present model including the electrochemical reactions is implemented in a commercially available CFD software, FLUENT, customization ability via User Define Functions (UDF). Numerical calculations are performed on cluster using a domain decomposition strategy.
