Abstract

This paper presents the design of a Z Source Inverter (ZSI) and a novel switching pulse implementation is adapted for the same. A steady state mathematical model for the ZSI has been developed on MATLAB/SIMULINK. The Conventional Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (CSVPWM) can be viewed as a modified form of Sine triangle PWM (SPWM). The present work utilizes the modified modulating signal generated using a simple algorithm. The switching pulses for the three phases of ZSI are obtained by the inclusion of the shoot through state using two control strategies - Simple Boost Control (SBC) and Maximum Boost Control (MBC). The boosted DC link voltage obtained from the impedance source network is intended to power a three phase inverter which can in turn drive a three phase AC load. The dc input voltage to the Z source network is 210V. An attempt has been made by the authors to simulate the ZSI with modified modulating signal and a mathematical model has been developed to verify the boost functionality with the two control strategies. Three phase 50Hz ac output voltage obtained from the ZSI schematic circuit has an rms value of 410.12V (with SBC) and 413.65V (with MBC).
