Abstract

Many articles have been published for the design and simulation of Waveguide Filters. However, it is noticed that no single article is available containing complete information for the design and simulation of a Waveguide filter and many a times couple of articles are required to be referred for design of waveguide or Cavity Filter. In addition, it is noticed that theoretical dimensions of cavity and the iris/coupler derived from these articles vary with the simulated dimensions. The probability of variations of realized/practical dimensions with respect to the theoretical/calculated dimensions increases with increase in frequency band. Designing and fabrication of cavity/waveguide filters at Ku-band and at other high frequency bands will be a challenge. In this article an effort is made to present complete information required for designing a Ku-band Waveguide filter for Radar and other communication applications. In addition to providing complete information the article also presents step by step theoretical design calculations along with simulated results for realizing a 12 to 14 GHz Rectangular Waveguide Filter.
