Abstract

A novel multi-function and frequency tunable ionizer to improve the properties of conventional ionizers is proposed in this paper. The proposed ionizer can significantly reduce size and provide continuously tunable frequency sine and square waveforms for application option. In addition, the proposed ionizer can achieve the ionization balance performance to solve the problem caused thereby positive and negative high voltages of sine or square waves are not equal. The proposed ionizer mainly consists of a resonant circuit and a magnetizing inductance control circuit to feature advantage of simple structure. For the proposed multi-function, the resonant circuit generates a high voltage AC sine wave having peak value 4 kV and the sine wave is inputted to a voltage multiplier to generate the other selectable AC 4 kV square wave. The magnetizing inductance control circuit introduces a magnetizing current into a designed winding of transformer to vary the magnetizing force and permeability of transformer and to tune the magnetizing inductance for the resonant frequency adjustment, so and the frequency of sine wave or square wave. The magnetizing inductance control circuit also feedbacks the high voltage square wave to monitor whether the positive high voltage equals the negative high voltage to implement the ionization balance performance. The experimental results conduct the proposed performances including AC ±4 kV output voltage from general adaptor 24 V, selectable hybrid sine and square waveforms with tunable frequency, and ionization balance function.
