Abstract

Since the last years of the 20th century, researchers and institutions related to electrical engineering have been trying to reduce the standby mode consumption. Even if a great number of studies have been carried out, a large part of them deals with complex structures which are out of the reach of most electronic device users or suggests improvements in the electronic circuits of the devices which will be further released. There are few solutions aiming at the mitigation of the standby mode consumption from old electronic devices or from those which are already in the market. Therefore, this paper proposes a simple and cheap solution to reduce the standby mode problem in already existing electrical equipment, preserving users’ comfort and convenience. The proposed solution differs from standby killer devices for acting over many audio and video devices at the same time and for having as reactivation element the level of electrical current consumed by a television. In order to evaluate the proposed solution, two analyses were performed: an economic benefit evaluation, and its influence on entire electrical system, considering a large adoption of the proposed device.
