Abstract

In this research, a low cost control system of active magnetic bearings (AMB) has been designed and implemented using LabVIEW Interface for Arduino (LIFA). This study consists of analog signals acquisition, converting the analog signals into the digital signal (ADC), digital data processing, drawing real-time curve and historical curve of signals, pulse-width modulated (PWM) drive and PID control system. The Arduino acquires the signals of rotor displacement and transmits them directly into the PC with LabVIEW Interface for Arduino (LIFA). The computer with NI LabVIEW calculates the signals with the PID closed-loop control and gives the output with PWM. Because of the disadvantages of the Arduino and LabVIEW, the AMB control system can be built and work well in a simple and cost effective way. The construction of this AMB control system platform and the availability and easiness of using both Arduino and LabVIEW allow interested users to implement and extend the AMB control system platform and other system platforms based on their own need and interests.
