Abstract

A defect photonic crystal waveguide (DPCW) slow wave structure (SWS) for wide band operation at 850GHz is proposed in this paper. The DPCW SWS is simplified to 3 transverse periods for the trade-off between processing difficulties and the ideal performance. Small signal simulation results show that 0.7W output power is obtained with 18.4kV beam voltage, 10mA beam current and 5mW input power. The prototypes for cold-test are fabricated using CNC precision milling and laser ablation technologies.
