Abstract
In this work, FLUKA design of a beam shaping assembly (BSA) has been carried out for sealed D–T neutron generator to have application in BNCT (boron neutron capture therapy). Out of several materials, the design has been optimized for tungsten multiplier, D2O moderator, TiF3 fast neutron filter, cadmium thermal neutron filter and bismuth gamma filter surrounded by lead reflector. The designed BSA would provide appropriate beam intensity and quality at lower source strength. The dosimetric evaluation of BSA carried out with Snyder head phantom is found to be satisfactory for treatment of deeply seated tumor in 115 min. The proposed design of BSA for compact D–T neutron generator can be installed in hospital premises for BNCT treatment with better social acceptance.
