Abstract

A new type of left-handed metamaterial is proposed with low loss, wide band and small size, based on “I” shaped structure, it also can be used for X and Ku bands. Left-handed unit arranged in periodic structures, placed on one side of substrate. Metamaterials can be equivalent to left-handed transmission line circuit. Effective electromagnetic parameters given by the high frequency simulation software HFSS and Sparameter retrieval method shows that the double negative band range from 8.58GHz to 13.55GHz. Its absolute bandwidth reaches 4.97GHz with relative bandwidth of 44.92% and the electrical length less than 0.05, with its biggest loss low to 0.27dB per unit. This new structure lay foundation for widely use of lefthanded metamaterials.
