Abstract

Recent advance of computer technologies has made it possible for a professional engineer to use a super personal computer as his hands-on tool. Many that are known as workstation are commercially available. In such an engineering workstation, the human interface should be designed in a way that assists and enhances the engineers' problem solving capability. This paper analyzes the human information processing from the cognitive psychological point of view to identify the issues on human interface, and proposes an interface that is implemented with the artificial intelligence technique. An intelligent workstation that has been developed for power system planning is out-lined. System evaluation is also made to estimate the benefit of the intelligent interface.
