Abstract

In recent years there has been an overwhelming interest in pulsed electromagnetic fields (PEMF) used for various biomedical applications. The application of low frequency PEMF for selective control of cellular function has created a new dimension for therapeutic intervention strategies. A number of investigations demonstrated that low frequency electromagnetic fields (EMF) enable the induction of significant current in tissues and allow for an enhanced biological effect and thus, can facilitate wound healing. However, researchers have used PEMF stimulators to promote healing, with the results varying significantly and there are discrepancies between the deployed PEMF parameters. The paper discusses the design and development of an extremely low frequency (ELF) PEMF system and produces simulation results of induced magnetic flux density produced by the systems two pair of air core Helmholtz coil.KeywordsELF PEMF systemsimulationmagnetic flux density
