Abstract
The finish of blanks and cropped billets is better at high speeds (about 10 ms −1) than at slow speeds. However special machines developed for high speed forming are expensive and unfamiliar to presswork personnel. This paper describes the convertor which is designed for a mechanical press to convert the slow movement of the press's ram to the fast movement of the convertor's ram. The theoretical analysis of the performance of the convertor is illustrated and this is compared with the experimental investigation. From the performance test, the convertor is able to achieve the speed and energy required for high speed blanking of thick gauges of metals.
