Abstract
This work proposes a smart metering system with direct load control devices to provide the functionalities of remote service connections/disconnections and demand response. The main contribution of this proposal lies on the design and development of smart meters, meter data management (MDM) system and app mobile to promptly interface customers to utilities. The expected impacts are lower peak demands, reduced truck rolls and theft detection. The corresponding benefits, therefore, stand out deferrable investments on assets expansion, lower operating costs, reduced bills and improved image of the company among its customers and to society.
