Abstract

As a significant frequency band in millimeter wave, the W band promises salient prospect in numerous areas, such as imaging and communication. In order to supplement the shortage of metamaterial absorber in this band, a polarization-independent metamaterial absorber is proposed and investigated in this work. Simulation results suggest that the absorber behaves broadband absorption in W band. For the normal incidence, the average absorptance reaches 0.906, and the absorptance is above 0.8 over the entire W band. Due to the highly symmetric unit cell, the absorption performance is polarization independent. Without requirement of sub-wavelength condition for the unit cell, the proposed absorber is implemented with Printed Circuit Board, and measured absorptance agrees with simulation, which verifies the validity of our design.
