Abstract
The process of design and construction of an outdoor Microjet engine test cell is described in this paper. The purpose of this study is to support both research and educational activities in the field of gas turbine and turbo machinery at Amirkabir University of Technology. The test cell can house small turbojet engines up to 300N thrust. This research work has been done in one year and provides an experimental laboratory to test and learn various aspects and principles of thermodynamics and aerodynamics of the micro jet engines. The data acquired from the sensors allow the researchers to determine the engine’s performance. More importantly, this test cell provides the students with hands-on experience to apply the knowledge learned in classroom lectures to the real operation of turbine engines. In addition, the visual aspect on a working engine, which is traditionally lost due to inherent risks involved in running these types of engines, is overcome. In this paper the design and construction procedure of the test cell are first described according to the characteristics of the Microjet engine to be tested and then, test results of the engine are presented.
