Abstract

In this paper the two topologies Inner rotor and Inner stator axial flux permanent magnet synchronous generator (AFPMSG) are designed and simulated, the design parameters are calculated through diameter to length ratio D2L method. Inner rotor and inner stator (AFPMSG) are designed according to the calculated parameters. Both topologies are applicable for direct-drive wind turbine applications. The finite element analysis (FEA) is performed to analyze the comparative performance of both topologies through the different output parameters such as, flux linkage, output power and back electromotive force (EMF) Voltage is discussed of inner stator and inner rotor structures. The contour plot of magnetic flux density is shown to observe the maximum and minimum values of magnetic flux density. The FEA results show that inner stator structure machine has greater output power and voltage because of low flux linkages but in the inner rotor structure has less performance due to the high flux linkages.
