Abstract

In modern times, the design and optimization of different control systems for servo control of a hard disk drive (HDD) is popular interdisciplinary research area. Nowadays, dual-stage actuator system is widely used in HDD servo system, where voice coil motor (VCM) actuator and piezo-electric micro actuator are used as the primary actuator and secondary actuator, respectively. In this paper, different combinations of PI, PD, and PID are employed for primary and secondary actuators. The tuning method is applied on these combinations to obtain the best performance. After a rigorous comparative analysis, this paper proposes the optimized method among these different combinations by analyzing and comparing the results obtained through MATLAB/Simulink simulation.
