Abstract

Summary form only given. The name `PASOTRON' is an acronym for plasma assisted slow wave oscillator device1. It is a high power microwave source which can operate without using external magnetic field. The confinement of the beam is due to the neutralization of space charge by the ions in the beam generated plasma. The PASOTRON mainly consists of plasma cathode electron gun (PCE-gun), periodic slow wave structure and radiating antenna. An X-Band PASOTRON is being developed, in which, a sinusoidal rippled wall waveguide is chosen as the slow wave structure (SWS). The reasons for this choice are that it has relatively simple structure, provides fairly effective conversion of electron-beam energy into radiation, and can be easily filled with plasma. The mean radius, rippled amplitude and spatial periodicity of the designed SWS are obtained 12mm, 5mm and 10mm, respectively using CST Microwave Studio code3. Consequently, a sinusoidal rippled wall SWS has been fabricated.
