Abstract

Various new designs of optical fibers are being developed in pursuing the ultimate performance of optical fiber communications. The current major concerns with optical fiber design are control of chromatic dispersion and nonlinearities. This paper reviews the current status of new optical fiber development, such as improved designs of dispersion-shifted fibers, dispersion-flattened fibers, and so on. Topics related to measurement techniques for nonlinear refractive index and chromatic dispersion are also discussed.KeywordsOptical FiberNonlinear Refractive IndexChromatic DispersionOptical Fiber CommunicationRefractive Index ProfileThese keywords were added by machine and not by the authors.
