Abstract

Tremendous growth has been observed in the aerospace domain in the past decade. The latest technology has been introduced to fulfill the optimization requirement in the combustor of the jet engine. Triple swirler is one such optimization in the combustor of the jet engine. This paper presents the designing process for triple swirler having inner swirler as radial swirler and intermediate and outer swirler as axial swirlers. The important geometric parameters evaluated using design procedure include inner radius, outer radius, and angle of swirl vanes. CFD analysis is performed on ANSYS after designing using the unstructured tetrahedral mesh. The flow field of the triple swirler is simulated using ANSYS Fluent with a realizable k-epsilon model selected as turbulence model. After performing CFD simulation, the variation of centerline velocity and pressure distribution to the axial distance across the combustion chamber is plotted. The size of recirculation which came out, is around 0.5-0.6m.
