Abstract

In the field of gear precision manufacturing, the CBN shape grinding technique is of great importance. In this research, a mathematical model for the profile of CBN grinding wheel base body has been developed based on the theory of gear engagement; the modification of the gear shape is introduced into the design of the CBN grinding wheel. Biarc segments are used to approximate the theoretical profile. Approximation deviation can be controlled within prescribed tolerance under optimized conditions. A series of wheels were made to ascertain the validity and effectiveness of the presented method, the final gear precision reaches the fifth class of GB10095-88 (China).
