Abstract

In this paper, a soft switched Y source dc-dc converter with continuous input current (CIC) is proposed for renewable energy sources such as solar photovoltaic systems (PV) and fuel cells. This isolated Y-source boost converter consists of tightly coupled three winding inductors for high voltage gain. By utilizing the transformer's parasitic capacitance and leakage inductance, the proposed converter achieves zero current switching (ZCS) for all MOSFETs and all diodes in the bridge rectifier. Hence, high frequency operation is feasible with good efficiency. The on-time ( <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">${T}_{ST}$</tex> ) of the Y-source dc-dc converter was kept constant to achieve ZCS under various input voltage. This converter enhances all the features of the conventional impedance source converter. With a limited shoot-through duty ratio <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$(\mathrm{d}_{\mathrm{ST}})$</tex> , the proposed converter is capable of achieving significant voltage gain.
