Abstract

Energy challenge is expanding with time. Dependency on fossil fuel alone cannot meet the total energy requirement. Wind and solar both are most promising sources of renewable energy. Awareness towards utilization of wind and solar energy has considerably grown up globally. Researchers are working on the effective utilization of wind energy into useful energy. Energy extraction depends upon the aerodynamic behavior of turbine rotor blade. The motive of this research investigation is to design and investigate a latest airfoil for horizontal axis wind turbine and test newly designed airfoil by using computational techniques. In this work a new airfoil, INDTH13, is developed for new capacity wind turbine with rated power 950 Watt (W) at pace of 7 m/s. Newly designed airfoil and blade are analyzed using computational technique (QBlade tool) using blade element momentum theory. Lift and drag coefficient are determined at various angle of attack (AOA) by using QBlade Tool. Comparison of newly designed airfoil with Boeing-Vertol VR-13 and NACA 2408 on the basis of their performance analysis is carried out.
