Abstract

An equilateral triangular microstrip patch antenna is proposed for 5.2 GHz operating frequency, which is used for wireless communication applications. The design of this proposed antenna is obtained by the loading notch and slot on the square patch antenna with 50 Ω microstrip line feed. This enhances bandwidth, gain, directivity and efficiency. This antenna has an enhanced bandwidth of 61.71% (3.746 GHz - 7.089 GHz) with a return loss of -37.08 dB at the resonance frequency of 5.204 GHz. The gain has been enhanced up to 5.255 dBi, the directivity has been enhanced up to 6.327 dBi and the radiation efficiency up to 97.04%. The proposed antenna and the different design steps are simulated and analyzed using the IE3D Mentor Graphics simulation software. The comparative experimental and simulated results show a good agreement.
