Abstract

Traditional software defined wireless sensor networks (SDWSN) fails to reduce the packet loss rate and delay due to the collision of packets in a single frequency channel. Considering a large network with numerous nodes, how to solve this issue becomes extremely essential. So, in this paper, we propose an SDWSN network architecture based on dual frequency channels (dual-channel structure), which enables topology control information and sensing data information to be transmitted in two independent frequency channels. To compare with single channel mode, we simulated the dual-channel structure based on the first order radio model. The numerical results show that the dual-channel structure has better performance on reducing network energy consumption and packet loss rate. The advantages of the dual-channel structure are also analyzed through hardware test. The test results show that the dual-channel structure is better than the traditional single channel structure in terms of node lifetime, delay and packet loss.
