Abstract

This paper deals the design and performance evaluation of a dual stator non-magnetic rotor six-phase permanent magnet synchronous generator (DSNMRSP-PMSG) for marine power application. To extract the marine power, it required a generator which have advantages like high power density, more robust and high fault tolerant capability. Due to the dual stator, non-magnetic light weight rotor and six-phase windings in both the stators the proposed generator is more suitable for above application. To design and analysis of proposed generator, finite element method (FEM) is opted for this purpose. For the FEM analysis magnetostatics and the transient mode of analysis are considered for the optimal design. For performance assessment, the transient mode of analysis is chosen. Using these modes of analysis, the evaluation of electromagnetic output such as generated electromotive force (EMF), percentage (%) THD, generated voltage vs speed, electromagnetic torque, % torque ripple and terminal voltage vs load current characteristics for generator are investigated.
