Abstract

In this paper, an interior permanent magnet (PM) synchronous machine with multiflux-barriers is proposed. The key is to adopt unique flux barriers design to realize better flux-intensifying effect. The machine topology is presented first, and then inductance characteristics are investigated. Some of the key parameters are optimized to obtain improved operating points of the PMs, preferable flux-intensifying effect, relatively high torque, and low torque ripple. Moreover, a conventional spoke-type ferrite PM machine is also designed and compared. And the electromagnetic performances are investigated by using finite-element method, including back electromotive force, inductance characteristics, torque performances, and demagnetization evaluation. Both the theoretical analysis and simulation results indicate the validity of the proposed machine.
