Abstract

This paper presents a design of a wound rotor Brushless Doubly-Fed Generator (BDFG) based on tooth harmonic principles and Finite Element Analysis (FEA). As we know, the Rotor Winding (RW) of the BDFG needs to be designed to couple the Magnetic Motive Forces (MMFs) generated by the Power Winding (PW) and the Control Winding (CW), the tooth harmonic principles will be used to realize the design of the RW. The design procedures and rules of the RW based on tooth harmonic principles are illustrated in the paper. As a generator, the BDFG is particularly attractive for the wind power generation and the stand alone ship shaft generation systems. It has the advantages of high reliability and low maintenance. Based on the tooth harmonic principles, a 700kW at 750rpm wound rotor BDFG will be designed and the FEA will be used to verify the design.
