Abstract

A new lizard, Desertiguana gobiensis gen. et sp. nov., is described based on a left mandibular fragment from the Upper Cretaceous of Mongolia. Comparative analysis of mandibular structures shows that it belongs to the family Phrynosomatidae sensu Frost et Etheridge, 1988. Some questions of relationships of this family with other Iguanomorpha (Iguanidae sensu lato) are discussed.
