Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of nuliparous goat female subjected to breeding season during annual dry season, on the Northeast semi-arid region. Nuliparous goat females, maintained under semi-intensive regimen, were subjected to two breeding season during annual dry season, in Mossoro city. The first lasts 63 days and the second 42 days. As a result for first breeding season, no parturition was registered, but one abortion and four hydrometra were verified. In the second breeding season, the percentage of breeding was 91,67%, and 70,83% of the females became pregnant, as confirmed by transrectal ultrasound examination between 25 ad 35 days. Furthermore, no abortion or hydrometra were observed during the second season. We conclude that months related to dry season are not recommended for the accomplishment of breeding season in this region, once that females can not reach an acceptable reproductive performance.
