Abstract

Project performance directly influences defined strategic goals and better business results. During 2007 to 2017, Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) received a significant number of projects for major events such as the Olympics Games and World Cup, as well as being a reference in the regular performance of other mega-events such as Reveillon, Rock in Rio and Carnival, forming a historic combination of multiple projects. This paper explores the understanding of factors influencing project performance through literature review and opinion of experts and executives involved in project management and coordination of mega-events. The literature review was carried out based on the screening of scientific articles from 4 different scientific bases. From the analysis were identified 27 factors that influence the performance of projects. For research were applied interview and questionnaire, in two distinct groups: executives and professionals’ operational-tactical level. The result of the investigation of the phenomenon is determined and tabulated considering two macro attributes with the intention of, after analysis of the investigation, establish a set of guidelines. After comparative analysis, 06 factors of high impact, related to 6 knowledge areas and Local Culture, were determined in project performance to elaborate a proposal of guidelines to be applied and increase the chances of success in project management.
