Abstract

The terminology at present used to describe the textures of granulite facies rocks is generally confusing. This is because the terms applied have been used in different senses by different authors and because many of the words have strong genetic connotations. In an effort to standardise the terminology a scheme is outlined which, as far as possible, uses descriptive rather than genetic words. This scheme has been devised after studying granulite facies rocks from central Australia, Norway and Ceylon, but it is probably universally applicable.
