Abstract

This study is the first to systematically address the prevalence of pain during intercourse in pregnancy. Surprisingly, pain during intercourse in pregnant women has been largely ignored in the literature. This leads to the question why? Is it because a pregnant woman feels shameful addressing sexual problems during her pregnancy or is it because the period of pain is “only” limited on the period of pregnancy, so just 9 months? Or even worse, is it because pregnant women are seen as “producing” mothers not having sexual desires and concerns? Whatever the answer is, it underlines the importance of this topic.
