Abstract
The phonon damping model is extended to describe the damping of charge-exchange resonances. The formalism is applied to calculate the strength distribution of the Gamow-Teller resonance in ${}^{90}\mathrm{Nb}.$ The results obtained are found to be in reasonable agreement with recent experimental data and with those of a previous study with explicit microscopic coupling to $2p2h$ configurations using a realistic interaction.
