Abstract

Miedema's coordinates have been used successfully to study the formation of binary amorphous alloys by the author. The size factor, however, is not involved in them, so that the accuracy of this scheme is not too high. Combining the two chemical coordinates ϴ ∗, n 1 3 ws into one: y = ||Δϴ ∗|−39|Δ(1/n 1 3 ws)|−1| , and using the radius of elements involved as another coordinate x, we can construct a two dimensional map. The resulting condition for the formation of binary amorphous alloys is improved. The equation separating the formed and non-formed regions of binary amorphous alloys is given by y = 0.05 x −1.75.
