Abstract

The level structure of Ba-Sm (N=84) isotones is discussed in the interacting boson model (IBM). Energy levels, electromagnetic transition probabilities and mixing ratios are calculated. The experimental mixed symmetry identification for the lowest + 2 state in 140Ba, 142Ce and 144Nd supported, and a + 2 mixed symmetry state is proposed for 146Ba. Potential Energy Surface is examined and PES contours are plotted. The U(5) limit of the model is used to achieve agreement between theory and experiment.
