Abstract

A new species of Cyrtodactylus, C. voraginosus is described from the Helmand Basin of Afghanistan. The new species, closely related to C longipes from eastern Iran, belongs to the caspius-fedtschenkoi section of the genus Cyrtodactylus. A vicariance model, based upon Neogene compressional deformation of Southwestern Asia, is proposed to account for the present-day dis- tribution of those species of Cyrtodactylus allied to C caspius.
