Abstract

IN Sir Arthur Keith's presidential address to the British Association at Leeds (Supplement to NATURE, Sept. 3, 1927), reference is made to “the zigzag line of man's descent.” It seemed desirable, if possible, to have some graphic method of crystallising, as in a nutshell, the views of the present moment as deduced from the results attained by leading investigators in this field. To that end the adjoining chart (Fig. 1) may be found useful, and a few words in justification of it may be permitted.
