Abstract

The study analyzes the development and use of mobile applications in Ecuador, highlighting their growth and challenges. With 47.8% smartphone penetration, mobile applications have become essential in everyday life. The most used applications include WhatsApp, Facebook and mobile banking. However, a significant digital divide persists between urban and rural areas, affected by limited technological infrastructure and lack of ICT skills. Mobile applications have positively impacted education, health, commerce and agriculture, facilitating distance education, telemedicine, financial transactions and agricultural management. Challenges include the need for government policies that promote ICT education, improve infrastructure and foster local innovation. In addition, international collaborations can bring new technologies and innovative approaches. Overcoming these challenges is crucial to maximize the potential of mobile applications and promote inclusive socioeconomic development in Ecuador.
