Abstract

A description of the main characteristic stages and processes of embrionic development of Sepioteuthis sepioidea egg clusters collected in their natural enviroment is presented. Eggs were incubated in laboratory conditions (salinity 35 o/oo, temperature 25QC, photoperiod 12 hrs.). Embrionic development of this species is similar to that described for Loiigo pealei and Sepia officinaliswith an approximate duration of 40 days in laboratory. Blastulation and gastrulation processes of the species consumed 25 % of the total developing time (10 to 12 days) and organogenesis the last 75 % (28 to 30 days).
